"12127 / Aber Bridge" unused color postcard printed in Saxony for the Wrench Series, heavily toned back, mild corner rounding. Prior to its construction in 1900, a ferry operated by David Charles Pritchard served the purpose. Replaced by a swing bridge in 1970. $6.00 wg

RANKIN.  Tennessee_ReelfootLake_NightRiders-100.jpg (310089 bytes)"COSTUMES WORN BY NIGHT RIDERS /  ON THE NIGHT OF THE MURDER OF CAPT. RANKIN /  AT REELFOOT LAKE" black-and-white on browning paper with edge toning, corners worn & rounded, 2 long internal creases. Reelfoot Lake is between Lake & Obion Counties in  Tennessee. The night referred to was October 19 / 20 1908. Some of the settlers around the lake formed the Night Riders to combat the land company that was asserting its lake rights due to old land grants issued by states before the area was submerged by a significant earthquake. Captain Quintin Rankin was hung & shot in this incident; another man, a land company lawyer the Night Riders were intent on killing, escaped. For obvious reasons a rare postcard. "Geigenbauwerkstätte in Mittenwald.  Echt Foto 72  Schöpfer der Oktavgeige" showing the old violin maker Johann Reiter at work in his Bavarian factory, real photo postcard with interesting composition & exemplary contrast, deckled edges as issued. The instrument name is sometimes seen as Oktav-Geige, and very few were ever made. Undoubtedly this card was issued on the occasion of the dedication of the Society's new home office in 1917. Many people could not tell you who she is, but the fact that women can get life insurance these days is tribute to her legacy!
