World Wide Web Shipping Information

One of the most interesting addresses I have found is a site that has a lot of information on Great Lakes shipping. www.oakland.edu/boatnerd/ has a lot of varied information of all facets of Great Lake Shipping, but, the section I find the most interesting is the various reports from points along the Great Lakes from people who live nearby and list all of the ships that go by that location each day.

Last winter I downloaded a complete file of all the ships that passed through the canal at Sault Sainte Marie during 1998. I eliminated all of the US and Canada ships and now have a five page list of all the foreign ships who went through. I have began to write them and requested they mail me a cover from the canal if they return this year. I hope to obtain a variety of covers from various countries with the Sault Sainte Marie paquebot mark.

The mailing address for the Wescott Company who run the "mail in the pail" boat from Detroit is also listed along with all ships which pass Detroit.

I found a list of ships visiting Milwaukee, but, it is much shorter than the other two and does not include many foreign ships.
